What happens if all the cobalt and nickel are replaced by manganese? Although scientists have tried to synthesize layered lithium manganese oxide (LiMnO₂), the lower bonding forces of the Mn atoms prevent it from crystallizing in the layered structure. Producing a stable Mn-rich layered cathode therefore requires the inclusion of another transition metal that stabilizes the structure. Scientists have successfully demonstrated layered cathode materials with mixtures of Mn and Ni in ratios up to 7:3. This type of Mn-rich layered cathode is commonly associated with an excess of lithium in the material (of about 20%), which allows a further increase the capacity. These materials show energy densities comparable or better than standard NCMs at a considerably lower price. They are also much safer due to the lower chemical reactivity of manganese. The main factors holding back wider adoption of manganese-rich cathodes have been that they suffer from poor cycle life and thermal stability. This is due to the relatively weak Mn bonding. If Arc would make a new Atom SV with 120gsm all around, or more, and the outer fabric with Gore Infinum, and make it a trimmer fit so it dosent look to bulky, I would be all over that in a heartbeat! Used for units to put identification patches, makes sense in the tactical world but not so much in the civilian world. Just like people have said already the WX 'feels' warmer even with less gsm because of the Gore Infinum and probably because of the extra loft due to its size.Īnother reason I didnt go with the WX is because of the velcro patches on the arms. I might be able to get away with XS but finding one in stock is a hassle. So far someone like me, 5'10" 135lbs a small WX would look huge on me. All Leaf gear run larger because they are intended to be used with kit, plate carriers and chest rigs. I have the Atom LT and I like the fit, the AR is just a bit roomier but not by much. I was looking for a winter jacket this season and decided to go with the Atom AR, after looking at both the AR and Leaf WX LT. ![]() However, neither one is as warm as heavier coats like the Fission SV, Therme or the very warm Nuclei SV which will take you to zero F or colder.Ī few days late on this but wanted to thru in my two cents. Both have similar temperature comfort ranges, and can be worn into the 20's F with street clothes or lower with some layers. That being said its not an incredibly large difference. ![]() This is despite the fact that on paper it appears to have less insulation. Perhaps its the extra insulation in the arms/hood, and probably also the goretex outer, but it seems to have a bit more loft and holds more warmth. My experience in real world use is that the Cold Wx feels slightly warmer to me, particularly when the wind is blowing. The Cold Wx also has the goretex thermium/windstopper which makes it quite a but more windproof and slightly more weatherproof. As others have noted the Atom has more insulation on the core (120g) and less on the arms/hood, while the Cold Wx is 3oz (about 90 g) thoroughout.
